A Joint Air Observer Training Exercise with the participation of the Indian Navy, Sri Lanka Navy and Air Force is be held off the southern coastal belt from January 28 till today (Jan 31).
A Indian Navy Dornier Maritime Patrol Aircraft (MPA) arrived in the Island on Jan 28 for the exercise. Twelve officers of the Navy are taking part in the exercise, the Navy media unit said. "training exercises which paved the way to improve professionalism and bilateral ties among friendly forces in the region" the Navy said.
This month saw another joint training exercise saw two Japanese P-3C MPA take part along side an SLAF Y-12 aircraft and several SLN vessels. The Dornier MPA is a manufactured under licence in India and is in service with the Indian Air Force, Navy and Coast Guard.
