The government of Jordan has granted a six month amnesty period for illegal Sri Lankan migrant workers to return to Sri Lanka between February 05 and August 03.
The Sri Lankan Embassy in Jordan has reported that more than 3,000 illegal Sri Lankan migrants are currently residing in Jordan.
The amnesty period would enable these workers to resolve emigration issues faced by them and also to return to the country and to seek employment for themselves in Sri Lanka.
Accordingly, the Foreign Ministry has urged the general public to spread awareness regarding the amnesty period so that the relatives of these workers could make arrangements to bring them back to Sri Lanka.
