A journalist who was remanded for being in the possession of 322 CD's allegedly with content relating to the National Thowheed Jamath (NTJ) group was released on bail yesterday (May 27).
During yesterday's hearing before Anurdhapura Magistrate J. Prasanna Samarasinghe, Police informed court that they would be withdrawing the Prevention of Terrorism charges levelled against the journalist.
Police, who initially told court that the CD's belonged to the NTJ group, submitted a detailed report yesterday and said that the CD's which were seized from the suspect were not of the banned group.
Accordingly, court granted permission to release Mohamed Rizwie Maharoof, the suspect, on a surety bail.
