Justice Deepani Wijesundara today (Jan 31) has excused herself from the judge bench that is hearing the petition filed against Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe's position as parliamentarian.
Justice Wijesundara who is the Acting chairman of the Court of Appeal had cited personal reasons for her excuse. Accordingly, it was decided to consider the petition once again tomorrow (Feb 1) before a separate judge bench.
Colombo Municipal Councilor Sharmila Gonawala filed the petition against Ranil Wickremesinghe claiming the latter could not hold a Parliamentary Seat as it was in conflict since he was the main shareholder at Lakehouse Printers and Publishers Pvt Ltd which generates revenue through services provided to Government Institutions.
