JVP leader says Parliament turned into a bazaar with MPs being bought, asks people to reject such politicians

JVP Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake today called on all citizens must come forward to change the preset status quo in Sri Lankan politics and rid the country of politicians who are being bought using black money.

“We can have our differences but we are facing a situation to overcome which we have to get together. We ask the old leftists parties, civil society organizations and the people to join us. This is not a task the JVP can achieve on its own,” the JVP told a large crowd at a rally held in Nugegoda this evening.

The JVP leader said what happened on Friday night was a conspiracy and conspiracies must be defeated. “What are the theatrics going on since Friday night? Our democracy, peoples mandate, people’s representatives, our Parliament, the   presidency and Premiership have been sullied,” he said.

He said that today MPs are being sold like in an open bazaar. “Parliament is a bazaar. The going rate of Rs.500 million. The decision on which side a MP is being decided by black money.  They become overnight millionaires,” he said.

He said that Cabinet portfolios are being thrown about like bones thrown to dogs. “Usually when you throw a bone to the dog that is close by the others who are far away will smell it from a distance and get attracted to it. It is only us in the JVP who are the true representatives of the people. We are not like the dogs that sniff the bone and come running in a pack,” he said.

He said that the money being paid to those who cross over is black money.

“What is this Parliament? It is no longer an August assembly. Last Friday, Maithripala Sirisena hatched this political conspiracy and prorogued Parliament. Dinesh Gunawardena used to scream for Parliament to be summoned even if there was a flood. Now he is silent.  They are no longer people’s representatives,” he said.

He questioned why people should accept the person who gets 113 in Parliament be accepted as s Prime Minister as if this is done that would be accepting those who take black money.

He added that Maithripala Sirisena is a failed leader and people can no longer keep faith in him. “In 2015, 6.2 million people voted for him against Mahinda Rajapaksa. All the people got together to defeat Mahinda Rajapaksa. It’s true that people had other expectations but the main reason that people voted was to defeat Mahinda Rajapaksa. . Now when he is honeymooning with Mahinda Rajapaksa in the moonlight. Does he any longer represent the will of those 6.2 million people who voted for him? People of this country should no longer accept Maithripala Sirisena as President of this country,” he said.

The JVP leader said that in a way people have to be happy that this situation has arisen as it has shown the shamelessness of these people. “Can we accept any level of decency and dignity form the people anymore?  Politically they are now dead.” he said.

The JVP leader said that Mahinda Rajapaksa, Maithripala Sirisena and Ranil Wickremesinghe have shown that they are not interested in safeguarding the constitution. “Chief Justice Shirani Bandaranaike was not impeached according to the Constitution. They violated the set procedure to impeach the Chief Justice. That is why when Maithripala Sirisena, as soon she became the President, sent Mohan Peiris home and reappointed Shiranani Bandaranaike,” he said.

The JVP leader said that in the same when Maithripala Sirisena became President in 2015, he appointed the Ranil Wickremesinghe as Prime Minister when he had less than 50setas in Parliament and he again violated the constitution on Friday night by appointing Mahinda Rajapaksa as Prime Minister.
