Vinayagamoorthi Muralitharan alias 'Karuna Amman' left the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) this evening after providing a statement over seven hours regarding his recent controversial remarks regarding the killing of soldiers at Elephant Pass while he was a commander of the LTTE.
The one-time LTTE Eastern Province Commander and former MP made the remarks regarding the killing of soldiers during an event in Ampara. He claimed to have killed 2000 to 3000 Sri Lankan military personnel in one night at Elephant Pass, and had quipped that this made him more dangerous than the Coronavirus.
Following a public outcry over the remarks, Karuna was ordered to present himself to the CID to give a statement regarding the comments.
