Kelaniya Uni's "Vidya 2017" Exhibition to continue

The University of Kelaniya says that the "Vidya 2017" Science Exhibition and Fair, which was halted yesterday (5) after the sudden closure of the university, will be held on October 8, 9 and 10 at the university premises. 

The exhibition, which is being held to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the University's Science Faculty, had to be halted yesterday after the university administration closed down the university following clashes between two student factions left several people injured and hospitalized. 

A letter issued by the University's Vice Chancellor Prof. D.M. Semasinghe today, states that however, the order declaring the university premises to be out of bounds for all internal students will remain in place until the university is reopened. As such, only students who have been issued identification documents to assist in the ongoing exhibition will be allowed into the university during this period. 

Clashes between students of the Science Faculty and another group allegedly from the university's students' union, forced the university administration to close down the university yesterday. The clashes allegedly occurred over a dispute regarding the exhibition.

Accordingly, the university was closed until further notice yesterday and students staying at hostels were also asked to vacate by evening. The university has been declared out of bounds for all internal students.  

The "Vidya 2017" Science Exhibition was originally due to be held from October 2 to 7. It will now continue from October 8 to 10.
