The OIC of the Kokkadichcholai police was yesterday (Jan 30) taken into custody for soliciting a bribe of Rs 25,000 from a tipper driver who was transporting sand without a valid license.
The arrest was made by officials of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC), SSP Priyantha Chandrasiri said.
He added that the incident had taken place within the premises of the police station.
The suspect was arrested when he had obtained Rs 25,000 out of the total bribe which is reported to have been Rs 30,000..
