The Police have decided to expand the traffic lane system to other parts in the Western Province and thereafter to main towns in the country.
Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police (SDIG) Deshabandu Tennakoon said that after further experimenting the project in the Colombo city and suburbs, a decision would be taken to expand the system to the rest of the country.
He said, instead of immediately going into impose fines on those violating the rules, they plan to get those violating the regulations for an educational class.
However, those who do not turn up at the classes would be fined for the offence of violating the regulation. A Rs 2,000 fine would be imposed, he said.
