Sri Lanka established diplomatic relations with the Togolese Republic last Sunday, Foreign Affairs ministry said. These ties would strengthen the bonds of friendship and cooperation between the two countries in the political, economic and cultural fields.
Establishing diplomatic relations corresponds to the interests of both states, and will help to consolidate international peace and security and uphold the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity. Togo situated in West Africa is bordered by Ghana to the west, Benin to the east and Burkina Faso to the north.
The agreement under the United Nations charter and the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic relations was signed at the Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka to the United Nations in New York between Sri Lanka’s Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera and Prof. Robert Dussey, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and African Integration of the government of the Togolese Republic.
