A group consisting 65 Sri Lankan refugees from India returned to the country today after nearly two decades.
The United Nations High Commission on Refugees (UNCHR) has given assistance for their arrival and ensured that all necessary facilities will be made to them to resettle in their respective areas, a spokesperson from UNHCR said.
Minister of Resettlement and Hindu Religious Affairs, D.M. Swaminathan who was present at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) to welcome the persons said his ministry is coordinating along with the UNHCR to makesure these people will be provided with needs for a better future.
"They expressed their willingness to return to the island voluntarily. We are encouraging this initiative. The
ministry of resettlement of people is taking the necessary measures for their bettterment." he said.
