A 19-year-old Sri Lankan youth has been arrested here on the charge of attempting to murder a special sub-inspector of police attached to the city police.
The special sub-inspector Thangasamy of Airport Police station who sustained grievous injury on his head is undergoing treatment in a private hospital here. The offence took place on Thursday night when the special sub-inspector was on regular rounds in his jurisdiction.
Police sources said the police officer noticed Lankan Tamil youth R. Venugopalan (19) near a burial ground standing in a suspicious manner. The youth lives in K.K. Nagar area.
The police officer enquired with the youth who allegedly assaulted the former with a hollow block stone on his head and face causing him grievous injury.
On information, the police arrested the youth and got him remanded. The Airport Police has registered a case under IPC sections 333 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt to deter public servant from his duty) and 307 (attempt to murder). (The Hindu)
