A laptop believed to have been used by Easter Sunday attack ringleader Zaharan Cassim has been recovered from a lagoon in Addalaichenai, Ampara, Police Spokesman Ruwan Gunasekara said today (May 31).

Meanwhile, cash amounting to Rs 5 million which had been hidden by the National Thowheed Jamath (NTJ)'s Ampara District leader, was also recovered by the police and intelligence officers this week.

State Intelligence officers who were acting upon information uncovered by questioning the suspect identified as 'Kalmunai Shiyam', had discovered Rs 1.5 million of the hidden cash two days before discovering Rs 3.5 million today (May 31).

Investigations have revealed that the cash had been given to Shiyam by his grandfather before it was hidden inside trouser pockets and some CD cases at the suspect's house.

In addition to the cash, two gold chains, a pair of earings, and a ring were also discovered by security officers who carried out the search today. The items were seized following a lengthy questioning carried out by intelligence officers on the suspect.
