Minister Mangala Samaraweera today (Mar 13) said that the latest price revision of fuel is lower than the exact price derived from the fuel pricing formula.
"According to the fuel price formula a litre of petrol stood at Rs 137 while diesel stood at Rs 104," he told a news conference today.
However, the price of diesel was revised to Rs 108 while the price of petrol was increased from Rs 129 to Rs 132.
The Finance Minister said that the Singaporean PLATTS price of crude oil had increased by 30.8 percent.
"The PLATTS price which stood at USD 53.08 in December last year has gone upto USD 70.04 this month," he added while stressing that the prices of crude oil has increased in the world market.
Minister Samaraweera also said that the prices of diesel were increased only by Rs 1 since most people travel using public transport especially during the upcoming Avurudu Season.
