Lawyers appearing for underworld leader 'Makandure Madush' allegedly accused of involvement in a VIP assassination plot sought a court order to release him on bail since his detention period has ended.
During a hearing at the Fort Magistrates court, lawyer’s for the accused informed court that the detention order on their client had ended on August 3 and no extension has been made since then.
Accordingly, court instructed the Director of the Criminal Investigations Department to appear before court and make submissions in this regard on August 21.
Madush Lakshith alias 'Makandure Madush' has been accused of involvement in the alleged plot to assassinate the President and former defence secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.
