Legal action to be taken against Indian fishermen caught poaching

News

Twenty Indian fishermen who were apprehended for poaching in Lankan waters will be produced before the Fisheries office for legal action after being subjected  to a medical test.

The fishermen who had arrived in two trawlers were apprehended by the Navy off Delft Island and Talaimannar.

Meanwhile, Navy officials have also managed to rescue eight Indian nationals after their tawler had capsized leaving them trapped in the seas off Delft Islands.

A spokesman for the Navy said that approximately 500 Indian trawlers enter Sri Lankan waters illegally on a daily basis.
