Members of the Maha Sanga have requested President Maithripala Sirisena to grant a presidential pardon to Bodu Bala Sena General Secretary Gnanasara Thero on February 04.
Accordingly, a letter comprising the signatures of the Chief Prelates of the Asgiriya chapter, Malwathu Chapter, the Fort Sanga Council, Amarapura Chapter, and the Ramanna Chapter were submitted to the President.
The chief custodian of the Sri Dalada Maligawa Pradeep Nilanga Dela Bandara, had also requested the President to grant presidential pardon.
Gnanasara Thero is currently serving an imprisonment sentence for contempt of court.
