Mahinda's quo-warranto case re-fixed for Feb 21

News

The Writ of Quo Warranto on Mahinda Rajapaksa holding office as the Prime Minister which was taken up before the Appeal Court today has been refixed for February 21.

Writ of Quo Warranto was filed by 122 Members of Parliament against Rajapaksa and his government’s continuation in office after two no-confidence motions had been passed against it.

Meanwhile the appeals filed before  the Supreme Court by Mr Rajapaksa will be taken up on February 6  on the application of lawyers, to indicate whether the matters including the (Court of Appeal Case) can be withdrawn, as the matter need not  proceed  since the status quo of the cabinet has now been restored.

On December 14,  the Supreme Court  granted special leave to proceed with the appeal filed by Mahinda Rajapaksa and the members of the purported government against the Court of Appeal's interim injunction that restrained them from functioning in their respective posts.

The three-judge bench of the Supreme Court granted special leave to appeal but unanimously refused interim relief leaving the original order of the Court of Appeal stands effective until the hearing of the appeal in the Supreme Court is concluded.
