A 32-year old man has been arrested over the possession of 25 counterfeit Rs 1000 notes in Malwana last night.
The suspect has been identified as M.N. Mohamed Rakeem, a resident of Thottampara, Malwana.
Police personnel attached to the Biyagama Police Division had carried out the arrest following a tip-off received with regard to the suspect.
He will be produced before the Mahara Magistrates Court today (Feb 19).
Biyagama Police are carrying out further investigations.
Ajith Gallage, the owner of a Bird Park in Nagarawawa, Hambantota, has been remanded over allegations of concealing illegally imported motorcycles, in a warehouse owned by him.
The final rites of veteran broadcaster, writer, and lyricist Nirmala de Alwis will be held today at Peradeniya.
