An individual has died after Police returned fire during a search operation in Akuressa at around 2:50 am today (June 02).
It is reported that the individual had fired shots at the police during the search following which police officers had retaliated.
Last month, a police officer succumbed to death after he was shot during an illicit liquor raid in the area.
Accordingly, a team of police officers had searched the area today to apprehend the suspect who had carried out the shooting.
The deceased has been identified as a 56-year old Akuressa resident by the name of Lokuge Dharmasiri.
