An individual who attempted to smuggle out Rs 14.9 million in foreign currency to Dubai was arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport on June 25.
The suspect has been identified as a 28-year old Sri Lankan national, customs superintendent Lal Weerakoon said.
He explained that the arrest had been made when the man had arrived at the airport to board his flight at around 6:00 pm.
Among the seized cash were US dollar bills worth USD 40,000 and UAE Dirham notes worth 160,000 AED.
