External Affairs Minister Mangala Samaraweera today lodged a complaint with the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) over an alleged coup attempt by the former preisent Mahinda Rajapaksa on election night. In his complaint minister Samaraweera accused that there are many high ranking officers involved in the alleged coup attempt by imposing a state of emergency under the Public Security Ordinance. Former President Mahinda Rajapakse, former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapakse and Chief Justice Mohan Peiris have been named by the minister that they were involved in this alleged coup attempt.

A Sri Lankan man was apprehended at Suvarnabhumi airport for attempting to smuggle wildlife out of the country after three ball pythons were found hidden in his underwear, the Bangkok post reported.
