Sunday Mass in the Archdiocese of Colombo will recommence from this Sunday (May 12), Archbishop of Colombo, Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith said today (May 9).

The Cardinal stated this while addressing a media briefing organized by the Catholic Bishops' Conference in Colombo.

While Sunday Mass will be held at the Archdiocese of Colombo from this Sunday, the Bishops of the other dioceses will have to take a decision on recommencing Sunday Mass in their own dioceses this Sunday after consulting the security officials in their areas, the Cardinal added.

It was noted that Sunday Mass recommenced at all churches in the Galle Diocese of the Southern Province last Sunday.

A special prayer service and holy mass for the repose of the souls will be held at 5.00pm today at St Sebastian's Church, Katuwapitiya for those who were killed or injured in the terrorist bombing there, the Cardinal said. The service will be held in the outdoor enclosure of the church as the church building itself is still being rebuilt.

A special prayer service will also be held at 10.00am on Saturday (May 11) at St. Lucia's Church in Kotahena in remembrance of victims of the bombing at St. Anthony's Church, Kochchikade, it was also revealed.

Bishops from all the 12 dioceses in the country took part in the media briefing.
