President Maithripala Sirisena assured that his government will take every possible measure to eradicate the drugs menace in the country to build a better society, Government Information Department said.
The President further said that the rules and regulations related to alcohol and illicit drugs will be strictly imposed and a comprehensive programme will be implemented to protect school children from this drugs menace.
He made these observations at the 138th Annual Prize Giving ceremony of Richmond College, Galle yesterday.
Here, the President pointed out that indecency has spread across the society due to this drug menace in the country and he stressed that we cannot postpone the duty to save the country as well as its people from this disaster.
He also added children being exposed to inappropriate visual content on the internet and other media can have a negative influence on their mentality and that attention of responsible persons should be drawn to implement a programme to ensure solutions to this issue in the future.
With the new economic and political change in the country to build a better society we should work with new strategies, he added. The President received a rousing and warm welcome at the event and President Sirisena also made a floral tribute to the Statue dedicated to War Heroes who were old boys of the Richmond College.
