MDMK chief Vaiko, took a vow standing in knee-deep sea water, to strive for a referendum for separate Tamil Eelam, while paying tributes on the occasion of Maaveerar Naal - remembrance day observed by Tamils to remember the deaths of militants who fought for the liberation of Tamil Eelam on November 27, the Deccan Chronicle reported.
Clad in spotless white shirt and dhoti, with his trademark black shawl around his shoulders, the MDMK chief waded into the waters of Mallipattinam, a coastal village in the Pattukkottai taluk of Thanjavur district in the State, and took the vow.
He bent forward and touched the waves lapping the shores with his hands and said he would be back (at the spot) after he fulfilled his vow. The video of Mr. Vaiko taking the solemn vow went viral. He had gone to Pattukkottai to inspect the damage caused by cyclone Gaja.
