The meeting of former MPs convened by Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa to brief them on the steps the Government has taken and intends to take to counter COVID-19 in the country got underway this morning at Temple Trees.
The Prime Minister's Office stated that many political parties represented in Parliament are in attendance at the discussion. They include the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna, Sri Lanka Freedom Party, Mahajana Eksath Peramuna, Pivithuru Hela Urumaya, Ceylon Workers' Congress, Jathika Nidahas Peramuna, Tamil National Alliance, Eelam People's Democratic Party, Democratic Left Front, All Ceylon Makkal Congress, Communist Party of Sri Lanka and the Lanka Samasamaja Party.
Prime Minister's Secretary Gamini Senarath, senior Government officials including the Treasury Secretary, senior officials from the health sector, tri forces commanders and members of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 are also present at the meeting.
However, the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna, Samagi Jana Balavegaya and United National Party have boycotted today's meeting.
