Minister Dinesh Gunawardena has been appointed as the Leader of the House by the government as parliamentary sessions are set to resume today (Jan 3).
Further, Minister Johnston Fernando has been appointed as the Chief Government Whip.
These appointments had been made during a meeting between government parliamentarians yesterday.
The opposition yesterday appointed United National Party parliamentarian Gayantha Karunathilaka as the Chief Opposition Whip.

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa is due to vacate his official residence at Wijerama Mawatha, Colombo this morning, a Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) source said.
The Presidents’ Entitlements (Repeal) Bill was passed by a majority of 150 in parliament today. However the opposition MP’s were absent during the voting.
