A barracks belonging to the Mirihana Police was temporarily closed yesterday after an officer attached to the Mirihana Police station tested positive for COVID-19.
Authorities took steps to disinfect the entire Mirihana police station premises after closing down the barracks.
Medical Officer of Health of the Sri Jayewardenepura Municipal Council Manoj Rodrigo stated that 64 close contacts of the infected policeman have been quarantined at two different locations.
He added that the infected officer had gone to purchase fish at the Peliyagoda fish market and it is believe he contracted the virus from there.
He said that 11 of the close contacts were primary contacts, 30 were secondary contacts and 25 were third level contacts.
The infected officer is a resident of Anamaduwa and he had traveled to the police station daily from a boarding house in Maharagama.
