A total of 2522 who had obtained electicity through illegal means were arrested last year, the Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy said.
Issuing a press release, the Ministry said that of the total suspects 253 individuals had obtained electricity by using hook lines.
In addition, 2269 individuals who had changed their electricity meters were also arrested last year.
Meanwhile, the Power and Energy Mnistry said that the general public will be able to provide tip-offs on individuals who are stealing electricity, on the hotlines 1901 and 1987.
