Navy personnel attached to the Northern Naval Command seized 312.5 kilograms of beedi leaves off Analathivu Island on Saturday.
The beedi leaves had been packaged in six parcels and were found floating in the seas during an operation by Naval officers on a Fast Attack Aircraft.
It is suspected that the contraband was intended to have been smuggled into the country from India.
Jaffna customs officials are conducting investigations into the seizure.
