A total of 3711 suspects were arrested during an island-wide operation conducted by the Police from 11 pm yesterday (Feb 23).
The suspects include 938 individuals on whom arrest warrants have already been issued, Police Spokeman S.P. Ruwan Gunasekara said.
He added that 768 suspects were arrested for drunk driving offences.
Meanwhile, 5818 individuals were penalised for violating motor traffic regulations during the operation which was carried out by 17,213 policemen under the directives of IGP Pujith Jayasundara.
