More than 50 percent of candidates seeking driving licenses had their applications rejected owing to health issues namely poor eyesight, the Transport Ministry revealed in a statement.
The National Transport Medical Institute (NTMI) which conducts medical examinations for candidates who require drivers licences revealed that 55.35% of drivers were unsuccessful at the examination owing to poor eye sight.
Of the total applications for drivers licenses which exceeded 800,000, more the 100,000 applicants were unsuccessful owing to medical issues.
The NTMI revealed the following:
13% unsuccessful owing to psychologically issues
2.5% unsuccessful owing to heart issues
10.5% unsuccessful owing to high blood pressure
25.35% unsuccessful owing to diabetes
6.78% were unsuccessful owing to other health issues.
In 2018, 11.40% of applicant were unsuccessful. In 2019, 11.69 % were unsuccessful.
