Police together with the Army have apprehended more than 1,180 persons between 8th-27th June for dumping garbage illegally in the Western Province.
According to the government news portal 250 have been arrested from Gampaha, 215 from Colombo Central, 169 from Colombo North,153 from Kelaniya, 140 from Nugegoda, 85 from Panadura, 72 Colombo South, 65 from Negombo, 27 from Mount Lavinia, and 4 from Kalutara.
The offenders will be prosecuted by the relevant police stations and raids will be continued further, Police said.
