The treasury has approved a sum of Rs 1573 million to import insulin, Tenecteplase, and haemophilia injections with immediate effect.
A total of 10,000 insulin injections will be imported at a cost of Rs 765 million, Health Minister (Dr.) Rajitha Senaratne said.
He added that Tenecteplase injections which are used by heart patients to dissolve blood clots would be imported at a cost of Rs 237 million.
"Each Tenecteplase injection costs around Rs 200,000," Minister Senaratne noted adding that 50,000 of the said injection would be imported in due course.
Further, a sum of Rs 571 million will be spent on importing 52,000 hemophilia injections which are used to assist in blood clotting.
