Fines amounting to more than Rs 1.7 million had been collected from Excise Law offenders during the first six months this year, the Excise Department said today (Jul 10).
Offences mostly included transporting narcotics, the illegal sale of liquor, possessing illicit or foreign liquor and illicit foreign cigarettes.
The Excise Department also said that 129 suspects have been arrested for committing such law violations. These suspects had been fined by the Homagama and Avissawella Magistrate’s courts.
