Muslim Religious Affairs Minister M H A Haleem has urged all mosques to commence delivering Jummah (Friday congregational prayer) sermons in Sinhala from this week onwards.
Issuing an instruction to all mosques, the Minister had insisted that religious clergy from other faiths should also be allowed to visit the mosque and listen to the Jummah sermons.
These instructions had been issued owing to allegations which have been levelled against certain mosques for propogating hate speech, a spokesman for the Minister told Times Online.
Earlier, Minister Haleem had also requested the Trustees of all mosques to submit an audio copy of sermons to the Department of Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs.
Further, the Muslim Religious Affairs Minister has said that all relevant parties have been informed to refrain from wearing any garment that covers the face completely and hides the identity of the individual.
He had also said that attention would be drawn to focus mainly on the spiritual aspect of this year's Ramazan festival celebrations.
