Minister Daya Gamage has given instructions to develop an Android Application to ease communication between the hearing-impaired and ordinary people in the country.
The app is expected to comprise different sounds that would generate interest in the hearing-impaired to learn the field of agriculture. Advice on agricultural activities and cultivational methods could also be obtained via the app.
Accordingly, the Minister of Primary Industries and Social Empowerment has instructed that the app be designed as soon as possible in order to release it in due course.
The speciality of the app is that it is being designed and developed by a hearing-impaired individual.
According to the census and statistics report in 2012, there are over 500,000 fully and partially hearing impaired individuals in the country.
