UNP MP Gamini Jayawickrama Perera has lodged a complaint at the Sri Lanka Police Headquarters with regard to the physical assault he suffered in Parliament on November 16.
Speaking to the media after lodging a complaint, MP Perera said that he called on IGP Pujith Jaysundara and requested him to conduct preliminary investigations in this regard following which he hopes to take this matter before courts.
"When I entered politics I swore by an oath to eradicate acts of corruption and make the Parliament a place void of such acts" he further said.
MP Perera also said that he expects the relevant authorities to initiate investigations with immediate effect while also hoping that the court would take up this matter no sooner than the preliminary investigations conclude.

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa is due to vacate his official residence at Wijerama Mawatha, Colombo this morning, a Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) source said.
The Presidents’ Entitlements (Repeal) Bill was passed by a majority of 150 in parliament today. However the opposition MP’s were absent during the voting.
