Parliamentarian Roshan Ranasinghe and six others who were accused of committing several offences during the run-up to the presidential polls in 2015 were released on bail today (Mar 18).
A case was filed against the seven suspects over charges of attacking the elections office of the New Democratic Front (NDF) in Aralaganwila, Polonnaruwa on January 03, 2015.
The Attorney General had filed a case charging that the suspects had fired gun shots and shouted threats at the NDF office at that time.
Polonnaruwa High Court judge Indika Sumedha Suraweera had ordered the suspects to be released on a cash bail of Rs 25,000 and two surety bails of Rs 500,000 for each of the suspects.
The suspects included the Chairman of the Dimbulagala Pradeshiya Sabha Jayantha Marasinghe, H.D. Nishantha Kumara, S.R. Ananda Wijeraja, R.M.P.A.K. Ratnayake, former Dimbulagala Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman S. Jagath Samarawickrama, and P. Devamiththalankara.
