Parliamentarian S. Viyalendran and three others have been issued notice to appear before court over a protest by Batticaloa residents against the burial of an Easter Sunday bomber's remains at the Kalliyakandu cemetery.
The Batticaloa Magistrate's Court had issued notice after police made submissions over the protest in which the Parliamentarian is alleged to have been involved.
Court heard that four persons had been injured during the protest when police had attempted to disperse the protesters.
The protest had been held along the Colombo - Batticaloa road during which residents had burned tires to protest against the burial of the bomber who committed suicide at the Zeon Church in Batticaloa on Easter Sunday.
Government figures show that 28 devotees had died while 70 were left injured as a result of the explosion.
Viyalendran, who represents the Tamil National Alliance (TNA), is reported to have visited these victims at the Batticaloa Hospital yesterday.
