UPFA MP Wimal weerawansa was permitted to leave the country with the intervention of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremeisinghe after he had been stopped by Immigration authorities for attempting to travel using an invalid passport. Leader of the House Minister Lakshman Kiriella however said that an inquiry would be held to ascertain why the MP was in procession of an invalid travel documement. “We know that Mr.Weerawansa will certainly return to the country so we have allowed him to leave. The Prime Minister intervened to resolve this matter,” he said. Earlier in the day UPFA MP Dinesh Gunawardena brought to the notice of the Prime Minister that Mr.Weerawansa who was heading to Italy was stopped at the airport and he sought the intervention of the government to resolve the matter.
