MPs have a duty to reject corruption - Amaraweera

News

United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) General Secretary, Minister Mahinda Samaraweera noted in Parliament that as representatives of the people, the duty of MPs was to reject theft and corruption and to speak out against it.

Referring to the alleged incidents of corruption during the previous regime and the alleged Central Bank bond scam under the present Government, he stressed it was wrong if the previous Government to have engaged in mass scale corruption. "If the current Government indulged in corruption, even a little, then that's actually worse," he quipped.

He however, claimed that the Government had no intention of covering up the matter and pointed to the President's decision to appoint a Presidential Commission to probe the matter.
