Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa has urged the government to provide concessions to the flood affected people in the North.
Issuing a special statement, Mr. Rajapaksa acknowledged that President Maithripala Sirisena had issued directives to the relevant officials in order to provide concessions and relief to those affected.
According to the Disaster Management Centre, over 74,000 people have been affected due to the floods with an approximate number of 11,000 individuals being displaced.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department said that showers or thundershowers could be experienced in the North, North-central and Eastern provinces.
Issuing a weather forecast, the Department further predicted that rainfall over 100 mm could be experienced in the Central and Sabaragamuwa provinces and also in certain parts in the Matara district.
