The appeal filed in the Supreme Court against the Appeal Court's stay order on the functioning of Mahinda Rajapaksa as Prime Minister and his cabinet was withdrawn by the petitioners a short while ago.
The attorney representing the petitioners had told court that the petition would be withdrawn since the petition which led to the imposition of the interim order was withdrawn from the Appeal Court this week.
The Supreme Court on December 14 last year had rejected the appeal filed by Mr. Rajapaksa seeking to stay the interim order issued by the Court of Appeal.
The petitioners sought an interim order by claiming that the Appeal Court's interim order was erroneous and therefore considered null and void.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and 122 parliamentarians including the former cabinet of ministers were named as repondents in the petition.
