A proposal was put forward by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to establish a multi-functional development task force to provide employment opportunities to 100,000 less qualified youths from low income earning families.
The proposal which recieved Cabinet approval noted that there were many opportunities for unskilled labour in government and government affiliated institutions.
Further it was noted that while persons were being recruited to fill such job opportunities on political and other sponsorships, attention needed to be drawn to low income earning groups in society.
Plans are already under way for the recruitment for this task force on a district basis and for this department to begin operations by January 15, 2020.
The Cabinet also noted that the government, government affiliated institution and the private sector too could obtain the services of this task force on a fee levying basis
