National day of mourning declared on Thursday

The government has declared Thursday (Nov 12) a national day of mourning for the death of the revered Buddhist leader Ven. Maduluwawe Sobitha, who died early Sunday morning at a hospital in Singapore, the government news portal reported.

The funeral arrangements of late Thera have been scheduled on the same day, Spokesperson of the Kotte Naga Viharaya said. Cremation of the late Thera will be held with full state honors on 12 November at 3.00 p.m. at the Parliament Grounds.
