The fuel tanker ‘Naveska Lady’ with a consignment of 40,000 metric tonnes of petrol has docked at the Muthurajawela buoy local media reported. Authorities are to commence sample testing and will begin the distribution of fuel within the course of today.
The ship, arriving from Dubai, was expected to dock at the Muthurajawela buoy after midnight, where it will commence the transfer of fuel.
Officials confirmed that before reaching the buoy, tests will be carried out to determine the standard of the fuel and laboratory technicians are preparing to leave for the ship to carry out the tests.
The Petroleum Ministry said that all preparations have been made to distribute the petrol to filling stations across the country as soon as possible.
