The Navy in coordination with the Range Forest Office of Hambantota and Fisheries Inspector of Kirinda conducted an operation in Kirinda and apprehended 03 persons with a stock of conch shells today (13th January 2020).
The Navy has been regularly conducting a range of operations to curb illegal activities. During a similar operation conducted with the assistance of the Range Forest Office of Hambantota and Fisheries Inspector of Kirinda, the Navy managed to find 440 conch shells hidden at 02 houses in Kirinda area, with the intention of selling. Three (03) suspects in connection to the incident were also held during this raid.
The apprehended persons have been identified as residents of Tissamaharama, from 21 to 35 years of age. The Fisheries Inspector of Kirinda is conducting further investigation into the incident.
