The Navy's Chemical Biological Radiological and Nuclear Unit assisted sterilization efforts at the Election Secretariat, today as a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of Coronavirus (COVID19) in the country. The initiative was taken in view of the final day for political parties and independent groups to file nomination papers today.
Following a request made by Chairman of Election Commission Mahinda Deshapriya, under the directives and guidance of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Piyal De Siva, Navy’s Chemical Biological Radiological and Nuclear Unit engaged to sterilize the Election Secretariat in Colombo, today.
During the cleansing programme, to ensure the protection of the staff of the Election Secretariat who are getting ready for the upcoming general election, all areas of the Election Secretariat premises were sterilized following Standard Operational Procedures, the Navy said.
