Another series of beach cleaning drives conducted by the Sri Lanka Navy in view of creating a trash-free coastline was launched in the Northern and Southern beach areas, on October 3 and 4, 2020.
Actively taking part in these events, naval personnel attached to the Northern Naval Command cleaned the beach sides of Kankesanthurai port, Mankumban, Mawelithurai, Kowilan, Mannadi, Vettilakerny and Kusumanthurei. Meanwhile, Jakotuwella beach in Galle, Parei Wella beach in Tangalle and beach area of Hambantota town were cleaned by Southern Naval Command.
During these clean up drives heaps of garbage including plastic and polythene scattered along the beach areas were removed and the programmes were conducted in conformity with the health guidelines and measures to mitigate COVID-19 pandemic.
